Clash Royale July 2018 Balance Changes

July 2, 2018 16:06

Clash Royale has recently announced a new round of balance changes that will be implemented on July 2nd (today), with some fan favorites being nerfed and buffed.

Let’s check out what’s going on!

Rascals: Boy - 5.3% lowered hitpoints, Girl - First attack slower

Both the Boy and the Girl will be receiving nerfs this coming update.

I agree with this nerf as currently, Rascals are providing way too much value for their respective elixir and this nerf should help slow down spell-bait decks in the game.

Mortar: Area damage lowered 3.5%, Hit Points lowered 5.3%

The Mortar is receiving a rather substantial nerf this coming update.

It’s low cost and long range allows it to chip towers with relative safety.

I’m also happy about this nerf as many Mortar cycle decks run rampant on the ladder and in 2v2.

However, I don’t think this will stop Mortar users as they are only losing 8 damage per Mortar round.

This nerf is considered just a “slight haircut” to a card that has insane value with spam decks already.

Witch: Increased 17% hitpoints, skeleton spawn speed increased from 7 seconds to 5 seconds, hit speed lowered from 0.7 seconds to 1 second

This is a pretty interesting buff indeed as the Witch has the current lowest win rate in the game.

The Witch will be hardier but has a lowered hit speed.

This further cements the Witch’s role as a support troop behind tanks.

With this hitpoint buff, she will now be able to survive a Fireball and Log combination against her.

Still, I think other support cards such as the Executioner or the Wizard will still have better win rates as they directly counter the Skeletons she produces.

Only time will tell if she can get her win rate increased.

Fire Spirits: Area damage increased 5%

I’m not sure why this buff was needed but I’m personally happy as I run a max level Furnace in my deck.

Now, a pack of Fire Spirits should be able to take out the Flying Machine, no problem.

This will also indirectly nerf spell-bait decks as the Fire Spirits counter swarm units pretty hard.

That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce a Furnace nerf with the next round of balance changes.

We will need to wait and see how this damage increase will affect the game.

Bomber: Range increased from 4.5 tiles to 5 tiles

This also is a good change as the Bomber is rarely used nowadays.

With this increased range, hopefully, he doesn’t die as quick to splash damage inflicted by other, much better cards.

Honestly, though, I don’t think this buff would be enough to bring the Bomber back as a viable support unit as again, there are better cards out there to use.

Let’s see if I’m right on this one.

Mega Minion: Hit speed nerfed from 1.5 seconds to 1.6 seconds

Mega Minion was a very strong card for a rather cheap elixir cost (and arguably still will be post nerf) and something had to be done.

I’m just not that sure if they nerfed the card enough.

Supercell did mention in their Balance notes that the Mega Minion had one of the highest use and win rates in the game and this nerf probably won’t dampen that.

Still a great card for a great elixir cost.

I still foresee more nerfs and changes to this card in the future.

Last but not the least, Goblins: 1% decreased hit points

Supercell said this decrease was apart of their ongoing standardization of interactions and fixed a rounding error in their system.

Minions should now be able to two-hit Goblins at every level.

I don’t think this will negatively or positively affect any card usage rates currently.

Giant Snowball and Royale Hogs now added to the Clan Wars Collection Day card pool.

Draft Sets have now been updated to “greatly reduce” the chance of getting a lot of building-targeting troops in the same Draft.

I love this change as I’ve along with many others have suffered from too many building-targeting units.

Kudos to Clash Royale on this quality of life change!
